It was a frustrating day.....was home whole day waiting for the air-con technician to come. Appointment was confirmed yesterday.
Imaging my shock when I called this afternoon and was told that they need to check and will call me back. 30 mins gone and never hear from them.
Call again and was told that there was no schedule of appointment for us!! HUH ??
After making noise, they says they will try to arrange 1 for us and will call us back in 10 mins. This time, they did and say they managed to fit one in.
Wife was very upset and says how can they do such things and after much bargaining, they agree to check our air-con free.
Ours was only slightly more than a year old and checks showed that there was not enough gas - a sign that it was leaking....
Asked the technician if he can top up the gas for us and the answer is yes BUT the problem will come back again soon (a week, a month maybe a year) and it may also cause damage to the compressor. In any case, he did not have the gas with him!!
Only way is to do a leak test to find out and fixed the leak. Well, seems logical...
Called their office and was told it will cost $ 400.00 just to do the test. Since compressor still under warranty, ask why we have to pay.
Told that leaks normally occur from the piping (which they are not responsible) and so must pay or no talk.....
After pressing, the supervisor came on line and suggest that we can top up the gas. When asked if that will cause problems.......complete silence........When I told him what the technician told me and ask for his opinion, silence.........
Press him for a yes or no answer (if it will cause further damage to the compressor), again silence.....and finally evaded the question by trying to explain how smart the system was and will sound the alarm etc....
Too boring by now and ask him - you are holding us at ransom right ? Either we pay or don't use the air-con and treat it like a piece of decoration ?
Guess what he says..... YES
Hang up the phone as no point talking to such an idoit!
Toshiba Carrier - you SUCKS ! Will not want to buy your air-con system ever again.

You should not be surprised that Carrier is not backing up their products. They manufacture notoriously cheap units and that is how they go to market. You buy them because they are just slightly cheaper than brand B or C . They know there is a huge segment of the market that only buys on price.
So, when you call them saying that this or that does not work, they could really care less. You bought the cheap shit, and there are many other people who will do the same thing after you. It is a sucky way to do business but it works...you bought one! They know many many buyers of this type of equipment are simply ignorant of operation or maintenance cost after the purchase.
If your piping is leaking it is not Carriers problem. It is the contractor who installed the piping that you should be calling. A good contractor would either fix or you would not have this problem. But you probably whent with the cheap contractor since you bought the shit box unit...
Oh is there really a company like that? How rude. I happen to be on the web surfing the other 3 hours today about Split System type of airconditioning, but I can not find any exciting article. This is well worth I have enough.
And I learned that you should seek companies that make name in business and proven for it’s quality work.
Some basic weatherization steps can prevent air loss when you need cool air the most.
